Sense on Sectarianism - Holocaust Memorial Event

Every January since 2010 Sense over Sectarianism organise and deliver the Glasgow Schools Holocaust memorial event in the Banqueting Hall of Glasgow City Chambers. This year was no different and the event took place on Thursday 30th January from 10am – 12 Noon.

This year’s event had even more poignancy as it is marked the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Birkenau.

The audience had the opportunity to hear the real life experience of St Roch’s Secondary School’s Department of Deaf Education pupil Erin McClusky; as she recounted her trip to Auschwitz and how it impacted upon her.

Erin signed her presentation and Michelle McDermott one of the two senior pupils from Kings Park Secondary translated her story into English for the packed audience. Not a sound could be heard from the 400 plus crowd which mainly consisted of Glasgow school children.

The audience included Glasgow Lord Provost Philip Braat and Glasgow City Council Convenor for Education Chris Cunningham who both remarked on the quality of her presentation.
